Daikin Mini-Split Code L5

Hard lockout

Output overcurrent detection. The inverter's DC section saw an overcurrent, or the compressor position or speed signal went wrong while running, and the system shut down.

Manual wording: “L5 Output overcurrent detection

Documented for: RKS/RXS pair outdoor units, FTXM-W/V outdoor units, RMXS multi-split outdoor

Likely causes, most common first

  1. Poor installation condition
  2. Closed stop valve
  3. Defective power module
  4. Wrong internal wiring
  5. Abnormal power supply voltage
  6. Defective outdoor unit PCB
  7. Defective compressor

What you can safely check yourself

  • Check the outdoor unit has clear airflow and adequate clearance
  • Turn the system off at the breaker or disconnect switch, leave it off at least 30 seconds, and turn it back on once

When to call a technician

L5 usually means the compressor or the inverter power module is failing, or a stop valve was left closed. All of it is technician work.

A Daikin mini-split throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
