Daikin Mini-Split Code A6

Soft lockout

Indoor fan motor or related abnormality. The Hall IC in the indoor blower reports a speed that never reaches the commanded speed and stays below half of the motor's maximum, so the control declares a fan fault.

Manual wording: “A6 Fan motor or related abnormality

Documented for: FTXS series (DC motor), FDXS series (AC motor), H-Series, FTXM-W/V, RMXS indoor units

Likely causes, most common first

  1. Layer short inside the fan motor winding
  2. Breaking of wire inside the fan motor
  3. Breaking of the fan motor lead wires
  4. Defective capacitor of the fan motor (AC motor / FDXS ducted units)
  5. Reduction of power supply voltage (AC motor units)
  6. Defective indoor unit PCB

What you can safely check yourself

  • Check nothing has fallen into or is jamming the indoor unit's air outlet
  • Check and clean or replace the air filters
  • Turn the system off at the breaker or disconnect switch and back on once

When to call a technician

A6 means the blower is not turning at the speed the board asked for. Testing the motor, its capacitor and the board requires opening the indoor unit's electrical box - call a technician.

A Daikin mini-split throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
