Daikin Mini-Split Code E8

Soft lockout

Input overcurrent detection. Input current to the outdoor unit exceeded roughly 9.25 to 20 A for 2.5 seconds while the compressor was running (the trip point drops as outdoor temperature rises).

Manual wording: “E8 Input overcurrent detection

Documented for: RKS/RXS pair outdoor units, FTXM-W/V outdoor units

Likely causes, most common first

  1. Outdoor temperature is out of operation range
  2. Defective compressor
  3. Defective power module
  4. Defective outdoor unit PCB
  5. Short circuit

What you can safely check yourself

  • Check whether the outdoor temperature is far outside the unit's rated operating range
  • Check the outdoor unit has clear airflow and is not blocked by snow, leaves or a cover
  • Turn the system off at the breaker or disconnect switch and back on once

When to call a technician

E8 means the unit is drawing more current than allowed. Measuring input current and checking the compressor windings requires a technician.

A Daikin mini-split throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
