Mitsubishi Electric Mini-Split Code PL

Hard lockout

Abnormal refrigerant circuit. During cooling, dry or auto-cooling, the compressor ran 30 seconds or more while the liquid pipe or condenser/evaporator temperature hit 167F or higher. The error is latched and will not clear until power is reset.

Manual wording: “Abnormal refrigerant circuit ... These detected errors will not be cancelled until the power source is reset.

Documented for: A-Control indoor and outdoor units

Likely causes, most common first

  1. Abnormal operation of the 4-way (reversing) valve
  2. Disconnection of or leakage in refrigerant pipes
  3. Air in the refrigerant piping
  4. Indoor fan not rotating - defective fan motor or defective indoor control board
  5. Defective (clogged) refrigerant circuit

What you can safely check yourself

  • Turn the system off at the breaker, wait one minute, and turn it back on once, since the manual says the error stays latched until the power source is reset

When to call a technician

The manual says that when this error occurs the 4-way valve must be replaced, and the refrigerant circuit recovered, vacuumed and dried. This is entirely a technician job.

A Mitsubishi Electric mini-split throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
