Lennox Furnace Code E200
Safety fault
Hard lockout. The flame rollout circuit is open or was open. The rollout switch trips when flame or hot combustion gas escapes the burner box instead of going into the heat exchanger.
Manual wording: “Hard lockout - Rollout circuit open or previously open. Correct unit cause of rollout trip or replace flame rollout switch and test furnace operation.”
Documented for: SLP98UHV and EL296UHE series
Likely causes, most common first
- Blocked or restricted vent or flue
- Combustion air inducer not moving enough air
- Cracked or plugged heat exchanger
- Blocked burners causing flame to roll out of the burner box
What you can safely check yourself
- Check the outdoor intake and exhaust pipes for snow, ice, leaves or nesting debris
- Check the air filter and replace it if it is dirty
When to call a technician
The manual's action is to correct the cause of the rollout trip or replace the flame rollout switch and then test furnace operation. Do not reset the rollout switch yourself and do not keep running the furnace. Shut it off and have a technician inspect the vent, inducer and heat exchanger. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility.
A Lennox furnace throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
