Goodman Furnace Code E11
Safety fault
Rollout switch is open. A manual-reset safety on the burner assembly tripped because flame rolled out of the heat exchanger instead of being pulled into it.
Manual wording: “Open rollout switch.”
Documented for: Goodman GMVC96, GCVC96, GMVM97, GCVM97, GM9S80, GC9S80, GR9S80, GD9S80, GR9T96, GD9T96 (seven-segment display controls)
Likely causes, most common first
- Gas pressure too high
- Burners mis-aligned
- Restricted heat exchanger or venting
What you can safely check yourself
- Turn the furnace off at its power switch and leave it off
- If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside
When to call a technician
Flame rollout means combustion gases escaped the burner box. Technician only - never reset a rollout switch yourself.
A Goodman furnace throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
