Trane Furnace Code E17
Hard lockout
The control is not getting a response from the ECM blower motor, so the indoor blower will not run.
Manual wording: “Blower motor no communication response”
Documented for: S8V2, S9V2 and S9V2-VS furnaces with ECM blower motors
Likely causes, most common first
- Blower motor no communication response
- Loose or damaged motor communication harness
- Failed blower motor control module
What you can safely check yourself
- Turn the furnace switch off and back on once to see whether the blower starts
- Make sure the blower door is fully closed and latched
When to call a technician
Call a technician. The blower motor and its communication harness are inside the blower compartment and diagnosing them requires live testing.
A Trane furnace throwing this code repeatedly has a reason — clearing the code without fixing the cause just hides it.
